A Carers Champion is a member of staff within an organisation who helps
raise awareness of unpaid carers and supports them to access the right
information and services.


Carers Champions act as a link between their organisation and the All Age
Carers Centre, helping ensure carers are recognised and signposted to
appropriate support

What a Carers Champion does

As a Carers Champion, you will:

 

  • Help identify carers within your service, workplace, or organisation

  • Feel confident starting conversations with people who may have a

caring role

  • Signpost or refer carers to the All Age Carers Centre for information,

advice and support

  • Promote awareness of carers and their needs within your team or

organisation

  • Share information and updates from the All Age Carers Centre with

colleagues

  • Act as a link contact between your organisation and the All Age Carers

Centre

  • Attend regular forums to receive updates on best practice, to network

and ask any questions

A Carers Champion is not expected to:

  • Provide specialist advice about carers’ rights or services

  • Offer ongoing emotional or structured support

  • Be available to carers at all times

  • The role is primarily about awareness, identification, and signposting

Carers Champions will receive:

  • Carer awareness training

  • Information and resources to share with colleagues queries

  • Updates about support available for carers

  • A contact point at the All Age Carers Centre for advice or
