What is an Assessment?
An assessment is simply a conversation to help us understand your caring role, any challenges you're facing, and what support might make things easier.
There are many kinds of support, benefits and services that could help you, your family, and the person you care for, but to make sure you get the right help, someone needs to meet with you and your family to talk things through.
You might already have support from someone like a mental health worker or a disability support worker who visits your home. That’s great, but you still have a legal right to your own support as a young carer.
If you're 16 or over, you can have a personal assessment just for you, even if the person you care for isn’t being assessed.
How We Work With You
We’ll always start by speaking to your parent or guardian to get their permission to meet with you. Sometimes, we might involve other family members in activities, but our focus is always on you and how we can help you in your caring role.
We’ll meet you for a relaxed, friendly chat to complete your assessment and then work together to decide what kind of support would help you most.
